The Cat Cabin, Falkirk, Scotland
Overview
Set in a tranquil walled garden at Polmont, on the edge of Falkirk, The Cat Cabin is a purpose-built lodge designed around cats and the people who travel with them. It sleeps four in two bedrooms and welcomes up to four cats. Dogs are not permitted. Built-in scratching posts, high shelves and walkways, a screened litter tray area and an escape-resistant double-door entry provide practical comforts for feline guests. Central Scotland is on your doorstep, with Edinburgh and Glasgow about half an hour away, and the Kelpies, the Falkirk Wheel and the Antonine Wall close by.
The Property
The Cat Cabin is a single-storey timber building with an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. It has a comfortable sofa and armchair, a dining table with chairs, and a wall-mounted Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime. The kitchen area has an electric hob, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster, plus basic utensils and everyday essentials such as oil, salt and pepper. Heating, electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are all included.
The first bedroom has a 4ft 6in double bed. The second is a raised sleeping nook reached by three steps, with two 3ft single beds suited to children. Orthopaedic mattresses are used throughout. The shower room has a walk-in shower and a toilet. A travel cot and highchair are available.
Outside, The Cat Cabin has its own deck or patio with outdoor seating. The wider walled garden is shared with the site’s other lodges and has lawns, a communal deck, swings and a slide, and a summerhouse stocked with toys and games. Two electric barbecues are available to use on the communal deck or take to your lodge, and a firepit can be used on the communal deck in suitable weather.
A fully equipped guest kitchen with two ovens, hobs, a microwave, dishwashing facilities, washing machines and dryers is shared by all guests. On-site parking is available, with space for one car per lodge and extra space available on request. The car park is about a minute’s walk from the lodges.
For the Cat
The Cat Cabin welcomes up to four cats and does not permit dogs. Its dedicated feline facilities provide places to climb, scratch, play and rest.
- Climbing and scratching: Built-in scratching posts, climbing shelves and walkways, and a wall-mounted rope bridge give cats a choice of high resting spots and places to scratch.
- Litter and feeding: There is a screened area for the litter tray, plus a cat bed and food bowls. The welcome pack includes toys and treats.
- Escape prevention: Double-door entry and adjustable window latches help prevent escapes. The interior has been designed to avoid hidden gaps where cats could hide.
- Cleanliness: Floors are cleaned with veterinary disinfectant between stays. An additional F10 disinfectant fogging treatment can be arranged before arrival on request.
- Garden: Some guests walk their cats around the shared garden on a lead, though most cats stay inside the lodge.
- Advance notice: The host should be told about any pets at least 48 hours before the booking starts, ideally at the time of booking. A charge may apply for additional cleaning with veterinary disinfectant.
Accessibility
The main living area and first bedroom at The Cat Cabin are on one level. The second bedroom is a raised sleeping nook reached by three steps, so there are internal changes of level. The shower room has a walk-in shower.
The furthest lodge on the site is no more than about 80 metres from the car park. It may be possible to drive closer to unload, depending on ground conditions. Guests with medical or mobility needs should discuss their requirements with the host before booking.
